[SOLVED] Whats's wrong?

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1650
CPU: AMD FX 6300
PSU: Soly Tech ATX 400w SL-F400
Motherboard: MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX)

If the power supply is on but its not booting up windows, then its the cpu thats messed up? I tried using my GTX 1650 and the fans would't spin but in order for the power supply to turn on the motherboard needs to work so I don't get why my fans aren't spinning and why I can't get into windows.

Yes this config has worked, I slightly overclocked the CPU when I used it, i will check the PSU brand/model etc and ill get back to you.

If your issues align with an attempt at overclocking, you could be looking at power or the motherboard.... but too early to tell.

(idk motherboard but its a pretty old MSI one thats overclockable)

As an aside, more than a few motherboards of that era supported FX chips and overclocking.... and really shouldn't have.

While the motherboard isn't very good, the PSU is of more concern here.
You'd be lucky if that could truly do 300W peak, when new... Almost certainly no chance after a few years of use.

Even if the PSU is not the culprit in this instance, you should be looking at a new unit anyway.

My budget is like $250 (cant go higher) I can do this if I cant get it to fix or if you have another build where the total isnt above $250 (dont include the case, or gpu)

That PSU is not great and only has a 2 year warranty. Remember, all EVGA PSUs are not created equal. I think that CPU (i3-9100f) comes with a cooler which is probably not great but hopefully will do the job adequately. Maybe skip the CPU cooler and put the extra $20 into a better PSU?

your graphics card has the "new active fans" so they sometimes wont kick in until pc gets to a certain temp. . you should check gigabyte site for the "amps" rating for the grpahics card and check it against the psu. as this will also stop pc booting up. i had issue before with my old "nvidia 780" a few years ago.. also check your cpu. so see that their is "NO BENT PINS".

i3-9100F or a Ryzen3 seem to be your best options at the pricepoint...

Can just about do the i3, MB/RAM and a quality PSU for the money:

Ryzen would see you having to really cheap out on the motherboard to get close - and you'd need to verify the BIOS was updated beforehand...

I wouldn't normally recommend the 3200G unless you were going to use the iGP of the CPU, but it's cheaper than a 3100 by about $20, so makes a bit of sense here.


But if $250 is a hard stop upper-limit, both of those options are technically over.
You could drop to 8GB on either platform to get under, but I'd recommend you go B450 with the Ryzen system... which pushes you back over $250 again...

I agree with Barty1884 on the PSU choice, and $250 is really on the edge to be able to get something good, that you can upgrade later on.
