So I recently bought this Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and it's been great so far, running most of the games I wanna play on it. However, when I tried Red Dead Redemption 2, the system crashed and BSODed, with the stop code "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR". I took a guess and figured all I had to do to make it work was switch the backend from Vulkan to DirectX 12, and that indeed worked. However, upon exiting the game, the BSOD occured again, with the same stop code, and occured on the subsequent two reboots, after which I shut the system off for like 15 minutes and powered it on, and now it seems to work. What can be the cause of this? Help would be much appreciated!

The "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR". is hardware error code. Most likely due the video card in this laptop is not enough to handle that games graphics requirements. Just installing DX12 will not change this.

Red Dead Redemption 2 system requirements
MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10 64-bitWindows 10 64-bit
CPUIntel Core i5 2500K AMD FX 6300Intel Core i7 4770 AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
RAM8GB12GB
GPUNvidia GeForce GTX 770 AMD Radeon R9 280Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 AMD Radeon RX 480

For games to run smoothly users must at least use the minimum requirements. For better performance the recommended requirements. The graphics used in ideal pads is Integrated the "Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics" its not a dedicated GPU. Like the on the table above which can not be used in this laptop. I suggest a gaming desktop which has room for updating hardware like graphics card and ram. Gameing laptops have much less air circulation and over heat fast. I am not fan of them

Well, my system meets the system requirements, it has an 11th-generation Core-i5, 8GB RAM and a GTX 1650. Also, I played a far more intensive game, Flight Simulator 2020, and this issue never happened once, so I really don't know where I'm at now lol

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
Apon more reading this error code you are getting is usually associated with faulty hardware. A failing hard drive, defective memory.

Why this happened, possibly DR2 pushed the hardware to its failure point. How hot does the laptop get when playing games. This can cause cpu to slow down to protect the system if it gets to hot.

Options to try
Update the system OS and drivers for the gpu.
If this continues have the laptop checked for faulty hardware.
8 GB is low for a gaming system, if you can go up to 16 or even 32. I did 32 for my desktop.

Well it does get a bit hot with RDR2, but that's when it boots. You see, the perplexing thing is this error occured a couple of times before the game even started. Like at the loading screen. Upon switching renderers from Vulkan to DirectX 12, I was able to play it for a while, until I exited the game and then the BSOD occured again

If this error occurs before a game fully loads there is a hardware issue.
Some games also do not like vsync. On jedi survivor had recent update which turned off this option. I have always had it disabled before the update.

Device: Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 - 15IHU6

I am experiencing the exact same issue, On RDR2 loading screen I got "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" then I tried to run it again thinking it was probably just a one time issue but there it was again.
I too tried to change the API from Vulkan to DirectX which did the trick for about 20-25 minutes of gameplay but then again the same BSOD.
Now I've uninstalled it until I find a solution for it.
