When a monitor flickers & dies - is it game over?

I had a nice Dell 27" Ultra-sharp that I've used a LOT for the last 5-6 years. About a week ago, it just went black. No backlighting. Turning it on would buy me about 3-10 seconds of working usage, but it wwould flicker during this time and always went dark shortly after.

What I'm trying to figure out:

1. Does this 'sound' like a small fix?
2. Is there any value in trying to sell it like this?

Just sounds like a backlight issue. If it's ccfl then it's common for caps to go bad and is an easy cheap fix. If it's led, that would be more complicated. You can try to sell it, but usually won't get much.
