I have narrowed down a persistent problem with my system to EITHER the CPU or MOBO.
For the purposes of the question, it makes no difference what the hardware is or how it was tested.
Suffice it to say.....everything else was tested thoroughly.

The two questions are:

What are the odds that a bad CPU placed into a new MOBO can ruin the new MOBO ?

Also

What are the odds that a Bad MOBO can ruin a new CPU ?

Thanks for your experienced and thoughtful insight

With PC hardware, pretty much 50/50 at all times for all things. They either work or don't. Or break or don't.

CPUs rarely fail though. But when they do, it is hard to troubleshoot without another CPU.

A motherboard that bricks CPUs, not incredibly likely as anything that could damage the CPU is likely to prevent power from being supplied to the motherboard (a short) Not impossible.
