Question When gripping a gaming mouse, is your arm supposed to be in the air the whole time you play video games?

I'm new to PC gaming and I had a look at a bunch of YouTube videos on mouse grips. For all of them, it looks like you are supposed to lift your arm the whole time while you play games. If you use a palm grip for example, and you rest your wrist on the mousepad you literally can't move your mouse. So you can't have your wrist on the mousepad, and you're lifting your arm the whole time. I tried gaming like this and can't even play for an hour before my arm gets tired. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just how you are supposed to play? It seems like an exercise in torture compared to using a controller.

You literally can, unless you have some sort of issue with your hand.
You might want to increase the sensitivity (DPI) of your mouse so that a small amount of physical movement moves the cursor around by a fair bit.
Also look for mousepads with a gel pad, they will give you a bit of a leverage if you need it and also make it more comfortable.

With a palm grip even with a higher DPI every time you move your cursor downward the back of the mouse will pinch the skin of the heel of your palm, punishing you every time you want to look down in an FPS making only fingertip and claw grip viable which means your arm will be in the air non stop. If you have an average sized mouse, the back of the mouse will hit the heel of your palm non stop using fingertip if you rest your wrist on the mouse pad. Only claw grip is viable but your arm is in the air the whole time which brings you back to the original problem.

The end of my palm is on my palm rest ( right at my wrist ) the only thing touching my mouse is my fingers.
I only move my fingers (mouse) about 3/4" to move my curser from one side of the screen to the other.
That's how I've always done it.
The only mouse buttons I use are right and left click, I use programable G keys for all other actions.

EDIT I do use the scroll wheel in some games.
