When I connect my projector the TV monitor on longer shows a signal

(Church setting) We have a new laptop running windows 10. We have attached a projector via a hdmi cord and all was well. However, we need a secondary screen for the choir to see the display for the words to the songs so we bought a hdmi splitter (not switcher) thinking it would do the job nicely. Here's what happens. Every time we hook up both hdmi cables the projector seems to override the TV screen and all we get on the TV screen is a "no support" message. Unplug the projector and the TV screen shows just fine. It doesn't matter what order I connect the cords or in which output from the splitter. What am I doing wrong???

I assume the splitter has its own source of power, correct? One that plugs into the wall? Do you have a voltage tester to check whether it actually receives power? It sounds like its power adapter may simply be damaged or malfunctioning, that's why there is not enough power to send signal to both projector and TV screen, and you need to have the whole thing replaced. You should invest in a volt meter if you don't have one, - they are a very handy tool and are very cheap.

If your HDMI splitter has no source of power that plugs into AC wall outlet - it's junk. It's called "passive splitter". They almost never work or require very short HDMI cables to work.You should return it and exchange for an ACTIVE splitter versus passive splitter, one that has an AC/DC adapter

Yes, it has a power supply. While I haven't checked it with a volt meter it seems to functioning correctly. I will check it tho.

If it is functioning correctly - consider this possibility. Some TVs do not support SOME splitters. This isn't such an uncommon problem. HDMI splitters don't exactly give you 2 different signals - a TV needs to be able to support a merged signal. Here are 2 ways around that if it's the case with your TV:

1. (simple). Exchange it for a different model. But if I were you I would go with option 2 just in case.

2. Get a USB to HDMI/VGA adaptor.

Avoid dual ones as in link below since you could get pretty much the same problem. However - you could use just one port in it for a projector and use HDMI port on your laptop for the TV. Problem solved.

This isn't a difficult issue to solve. I wish all PC related problems were that easy LOL
