When I overclock laptop screen

My laptop is running 144hz with a 1660ti non max q, when i overclock the monitor to 160hz it looks like 60hz, when its 170 it doesnt work properly but where you can see on the screen definetely looks like 170hz. im just confused? why does 160hz look worse than 144hz even though they both should work right. i had a 60hz gaming laptop and could overclock it to 96hz perfectly.

You are going over the screen spec, what happens when you do that is not a guarantee, and what happened with another system should not be assumed will happen with this one.
