When I switch displays I get no signal

Ive been building gameing pc's since the 90's, but this has me stumped.

I have an asus p8h61 m me csm. Its my test system, 8gb ddr3 gtx 1060, i5 2500. Single pci 2.0. Every time I unplug dvi cable from gpu or hdmi. I do this to play games on my tv. When I plug either cable back in I get no signal. I have to remove gpu, boot back up using igpu, power down and reinstall gpu to get signal back. I have three gtx cards, it does this with all of them. What is happening?

Is the BIOS of the motherboard up to date?

Do you unplug the cables while the OC is on? You shouldn´t

Resetting BIOS/CMOS could be another workaround
