When i try to format my memory card i get error like the disk is write protected

Does the card have a write protect switch? Is it old -- at the end of life memory cards can be read but not written to?

Most importantly, are you running Windows 7? Win 7 has security that can prevent writing to USB devices, but it can be turned off.
