Hello,

When I switch my laptop on lots of Window Search Boxes appear, which say 'Search Results', 'To begin, type in the search box'. Any idea why this is coming up? It doesn't happen every time I switch the laptop on just sometimes. I've had a look at the keyboard and no keys seem sticky. I've done various virus scans etc. I've also done a system restore to a few months back and still nothing.

Hopefully 'll be able to get some help.

Thanks :)

All you should need to do is click the Start button, type Services in the search field, and click the Enter key. Scroll down and right-click on Windows Search and choose Properties. Change the Startup type to Disabled which will stop it from running when you reboot your machine. You can also click the Stop button to stop the service immediately.

This is if your on windows 7

Hiya,

I am on windows 7, just done as you said. Then shut down my laptop and turned it back on again. It didn't work :/

Does this happen in safemode aswell?

What programs are listed in the "startup" tab in MSconfig (start->run->msconfig->enter)?

do the searches give any results or are they blank search boxes?

Yeah, it does happen in safemode.

Programs listed in msconfig all seem to be pretty normal - although I have got one that says dldn_device and the manufacturer is unknown.

And another Dritex WMI Services manufacturer Dritex System Inc.

All the others seem to have the manufacturer microsoft, apple, intel and acer.

The pop ups are just blank search boxes.

Tbh im struggling to find/think of anything.
Only ideas that I can have is to trying a diagnostic startup, see if it does it in there

another thought is if you have any taskbar addons such as google toolbar, if so disable them.

Other than that then try running windows repair from the windows installation disk/partition.

Nothing seems to work.
Tried everything, last night and this morning it was fine and now all of a sudden it's done the same thing again. But now its decided that when I'm on a website a search box on chrome will open.

I just can't think what it is. I have tried everything.
