So i've had this Acer Aspire 5742 for some years now, but i've not used it for some years now because i got another laptop from school. So after a while i descided to reformat the acer, so i could use it as media laptop that was connected to my TV. I had to reformat the thing because there were alot of stupid things on it. Bloatware etc. So i did a clean wipe of the harddrive and everything, so it was "fresh" when the reformat was done.

But when i then got into the "new" windows, i didnt have the wireless working. So when i opened the little internet "tab" down on the windows (line?) this is what i saw.

So there are NO indication that there actually is wireless on the damn thing.

So i have tried to install the Lan driver, Wireless Lan, Chipset drivers and some ACHI Intel driver. More or less every driver that i thought might be the reason for the wireless not to work. After a while of trying things out, i just gave up. But today i had friend that needed a computer, since his computer was litterly hit by lighting. So im now, again trying to fix it for him. (You know it aint easy when shit goes down and a WoW Expansion is released.)

So now after trying things out, i found out that the Wireless Lan driver that i installed was the wrong one. (i choose to believe for now) All the time i spent on getting it to work, i used the Wireless Lan driver from Broadcom. So i now tried another Wireless driver, but this time from Atheros. So when the installation was complete there poped-up this bubble saying "Device driver software was not successfully installed).

I click it, and it says that the Ethernet controller wasnt installed. So i thought that i actually fixed it for a moment, since i now actually have wireless now, and i can find my own network and connect it.... but only LOCAL! When it tries to connect, it says that it cant connect to the internet, so the connection is limited to local. I dont remeber word by word what the error said, since im not with the laptop atm.
So... it feels like im 50% done, and not rigth where i need to be. (And yeah, btw. it did'nt work by cable either, but since its a laptop, im focusing on the wireless.)
Ive tried alot of different things with that laptop today, so i dont remember it all, but i hoper you helpfull guys and gals out there have enough information to help me. And yeah, this happens to every network i try to connect to with wireless and by cable.

So whats the status now, you might ask.
I have a laptop, with wireless, but there seem to be some kind of driver missing, so when i connect to any router i only get limited access to the router, and i dont get any fancy internet.

Please help a "not-too-computer-geek" guy from Norway, that feels like his english writing is becoming worse.

On beforehand, thanks! :wahoo:
