When Internet Goes Down, PC Doesn't Reconnect

I have AT&T, probably one of the shittiest providers customer service wise. Due to the tropical storm, the internet goes down for 1 minute or more. My other devices reconnect fine but my PC has to be restarted, otherwise in network and sharing center, the link to internet is just a red X. I have to use a wireless adapter for my pc since I can't run an ethernet cable to my rig. Could this an issue with the adapter or my pc? Also a second more simple question, how long can an ethernet cable be without sacrificing quality of the internet. Thanks for any help

This doesn't necessarily indicate any faulty hardware. Eventually your system will probably detect that the connection has been reestablished. This can take time depending on the combination of equipment being used.

However, you can either disable/re-enable the adapter to give it a kick start. Also, if you are on a DHCP address you could also (from a command prompt), do an ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew to give it a kick.

For Cat 6 I believe the recommended maximum cable length without any repeaters is 90m or around 100 yards
