When plug into hdmi it works but not through VGA

as the title says.. i recently built a computer and since my monitor didn't arrive I decided to try it with TV as a monitor. HDMI worked I see the screen. but when I connect it through vga it does not pick up the signal. Is this possible case?

Is by any chance your HDMI connector on your graphics card and VGA connection on your motherboard? If yes, that's what's supposed to happen.

Could you post your specs if it isn't the case?

oh yes. I have HD 6950 graphics card that has hdmi port and vga connection on my mobo. Sorry for being a noob. D: so I cannot use vga then?
just DVI and HDMI?

Exactly. Your motherboard connections are disabled when your graphics card is inside your PC. If you want to use VGA, you can use one of these cheap adapters:
