When should I overclock my CPU?

Hi, Im planning to buy either an i5 3570k or i73770k soon but when should I overclock it? My plan is to overclock it when the CPU is slow for my games and bringing my fps down to 20-30 which will be 4-5 years down the road maybe. Or should I overclock it right out of the box and potentially void the warranty? Sorry Im new to OC cpu's. Thanks

You never really have to overclock a CPU, though your plans seem good. However, a few notes:

- An i5-3570K is fine for gaming; the i7 isnt much more. Unless you're getting it from MicroCenter, the price difference isnt worth it.
- Overclock when your games are more like 30-40 FPS. Overclocking doesnt bring THAT much of a benefit.
- Intel has an overclockers warranty.
