When to have and not have SLI enabled?

I currently have dual 8800gtx's running in SLI but I'm just curious if possibly when I'm not playing games, if keeping SLI disabled will cut down on heat and or power usage? Thanks a bunch.

I think SLi now allows you to run multiple monitors...up to 4? If not, then turn off SLi for 4 monitors.

Disabling SLi might save you some electricity, but the main benefit to disabling it is to play older games that are glitchy with SLi.


Enable SLi when doing everything else.

I leave my sli running. i am not really sure it is that great of power saving over time to disable the sli in my system.Problem is even with the cards plugged in you will be using power whether sli is enabled or not.
