When to Install SP3?

I got a CD that contains only SP3 for Win2000 and another CD that contains Win2000 (initial release) installation.

Now should I apply the SP3 update immediately after I have newly installed Win2000? Or should I install Win2000 first, then mobo/video/device drivers, and finally SP3?

Thanks for your advice.

Personally, I'd install the OS, then the mobo drivers etc, then installed the SP. That's how I've always done, never had a problem.

Is this in a business environment? Becuase SP3 has a few glitches, to say the least!

Just a note, I don't know how true this is, but I *heard* (from credible sources) that if SP3 is installed, it gives MS administrative rights to your box. I believe it is stated in the agreement that most people do not read. I know I don't want MS prying into my box!

Yep, it configures Automatic Updates in Control Panel to have maximum control. It also whacks an icon in your start menu, so most people think that's it and remove it!

I've had no end of problems with SP3, including IE related probs and SMS 2 issues. Not a big fan!

I run SP3 on several machines and have had no problems with any of them. But I did immediately after install, disable the remote registry service, the automatic update service, and the Background Intelligent transfer service.
No problems yet, on 3 desktops, 1 server, and 2 laptops. I saw yet because this is of course Windows.

Yeah, it's what we did straightaway on the servers. Although we also found that on some (only a handful though) rebuilt PC's that had SP3 and Intel Application Accelerator on, the machines performance hit the floor!! Wierd!
