When turning on HDR, colors are too bright

Yesterday I bought an LG 4K HDR display(Specifically LG27UK650-W), I'm new to HDR and not entirely sure how to set it up properly. I'm sitting in a very bright room. Whenever I turn on HDR either in windows or in games the colors become way too bright and cause eye strain. I'm wondering if I just didn't set it up correctly, I'm using a GTX 1080 in my alienware 17 R4 laptop.

Edit:I forgot to mention that I've used an Xbox One X with this display and the colors display perfectly.

I’m assuming you are coming from an old screen. New screens are much brighter.

Just fumble through the settings menu to adjust brightness. The last LG I setup used a 4 direction toggle switch at the bottom middle edge of the display.

I just tried that and the color still seem much to bright even on 1/100 brightness setting.
