When will 8gb of RAM be too little?

So I'm building a desktop, and I'm wondering when will 8gb of RAM be too little for gaming? I currently have enough dough for 16gb RAM, but IDK what amount I should buy; can you help me?

there is a pretty good possibility that your other hardware will need upgrading before you will ever need 16gb of ram for gaming.

8 GB is more than enough for gaming, in fact most games don't need more than 4 GB of RAM to run and the difference between 4 and 8 GB of RAM in fps is negligible to nothing. However if you do rendering or any other memory intensive tasks then it is a different story.
