When will M.2 SSDs get "sexy"

Solution
There may be a few. Most vendors won't want to. As M.2 is a universal form factor for laptops and desktops. If they make it with a heatsink. Then laptop owners can't buy it. I'd guess sales to laptop owners account for at least half of M.2 sales. If you factor in OEM computers. Laptops likely account for 90% of sales. Since very few desktops come with an SSD.

M.2 slots can be used for Intel Optane, which works similarly to RAM (same speeds), but doesnt lose its files when power is lost. Can help an HDD get SSD like boot speeds, other than that I dont really know

Dont worry....
They dont get as hot when used under normal circumstances.
If you keep hammering it with Read/Write benchmarks for 1 hour it will get hot. If you keep transfering HUGE files back and forth all day long it will get hot.

But I dont think you are doing that.

Hence dont worry.

My computer has been running for 6 hours now give or take, and right now I am sitting at 37 degree celcius on my M.2 NVMe 960 evo... And the ambient temp in the room is 21 celcius.
Highest recorded temp today is 48.... so yea...

again dont worry.

No you still need RAM, Intel optane just works to speed up booting and faster loading times for most used applications and files. It works over time. You still definitely need RAM sorry to tell you
