I'm more tempted to go with four tb but it's too pricey and I had to settle with 2tb instead for my new sata ssd 870 evo.

Has there been any word on when 4tb can start having competitive prices and be a norm yet?

PLC is not a good thing.
when we get to those levels of bits per cell, the endurance and performance of a drive might be so bad you are better off with a hard drive.

If you need such massive storage, you probably don't need it to be fast, meaning you can get a 4TB hard drive for storage.
The chances of you needing access to such massive amount of fast data are extremely slim.

But hard drives are slow and have more chances of failing and it's pretty much outdated tech at this point outside of storage for enterprises and stuff

SSD tends to be more reliable and there are many brands to look out for. HDD only has like...three which is bad for a consumer.

I feel that as software gets more complex, file space will only get bigger and that's going to prompt people to move over to 4tb whether it's reliable or not.
