this is my first posting.

i have come to know that the sony cell processors are a lot faster than intel or amd but when will they arrive and if they arrive will these systems be compatible with the existing software. And finally what would be the price range of these processors.

Sony's Cell Processor will never be a desktop chip (and there not faster, just more cores). They are NOT compatible with current PC games and never will be. And finally Intel and AMD will beat them within a year or two.

Well, where ever you got this knowledge that you've "come to know", you might want to know that it's pretty wrong. 1) Cell isn't faster. In fact it's slower. It just makes up for this by throwing tons of Cell cores into one system. 2) Cell isn't going to even remotely compete with Intel or AMD. It's not even remotely x86-64 compatible. It really only makes sense for consumer electronics and strange forms of parallel/distributed computing.

Sony has no intention of throwing these processors into a PC, Mac, whatever. Although it would be cool if they did. The only thing they've speculated on is distributed and parallel computing. Cell has an obvious advantage there. But they haven't even committed to that yet.

For now, Cell will stay put in the PS3.

I seriously doubt that Cell will ever make it past the PS3 or basic consumer electronics. Product cycles for computers and other high end consumer electronics are so fast that Sony won't be able to keep up. They'd have to throw a butt load of capital into developing new Cell processors for applications that don't even exist.
