When you update the BIOS, are its settings reset to default?

I wished to update my mobo's BIOS but I'm afraid that, when I do it, its settings will automatically be reset to default.

Also, if it's not much trouble, how do you uptate your BIOS? ) (This second question is not as important as the first one; I'll be happy with an answer to the first question only. Thank you very much!
