I want to get a 1440p 144hz monitor, but I only have a gtx 1070 ti. I'm just wondering whether to upgrade my gpu at this time or not.
I've been playing at 1440p 60hz for a like 2 years now with this GPU.

144hz monitor users, where do you stop noticing an increase in framerate? (ex: anything above 90fps doesn't look smooth for me). I do know that the full 144fps+ is required for competitive games and input lag, but I'm wondering more for open world games. I think my 1070 ti will struggle with those, and I heard that going from 144hz back to 60hz is painful.

Yup. Planning to get the LG27GL850 or LG27GL83A
Ah well I can say the LG27 GL83A is great, I’m very happy with mine after having about 1 month.

Id say even at 60fps you will notice an improvement. I would say once you get over 100fps the difference between 100-144 is not that noticeable or at least to me.

I would say going back to 60Hz is noticeable. I’ve found myself looking at new laptops with 120-144Hz as even when not gaming then extra smoothness is nice, I find the interaction with anything onscreen feels more ‘connected’ or ‘real’.

This helps so much dude thank you. I think I'll just get the monitor without upgrading my gpu yet. Maybe I'll look into upgrading when the new vega gpus come out.

How is the gl83a's contrast? Is the blacklight bleed noticable in a dark room if you lower the brightness?

I don't find the black light bleed an issue, to me its minimal but my last monitor was also IPS and much worse. Here is a really good review, it might help https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gl83a-b

I don't see much difference past 75hz The thing about "competitive games" if you are not being paid to play games and are not given hardware to use, don't worry too much about it, it won't help you shoot people better enough to spend extra money on the thing. The 144hz feeling is smoother, even when using Windows normally. The mouse movement is buttery feeling across the screen. 60hz in gaming is a bit blah these days, I found even WOW had some screen glitches at 60, so it's not a horrible thing to get a better monitor, just don't stress about not getting to 144 fps or having issues pushing things at that refresh rate with the video card. If you can get to 75 or higher, you are good.

I think I may just go to a windows store or microcenter, and see where I notice a difference in refresh rate.
