Where can I buy AMD XP 3200+ ????

I can't find it anywhere.

I currently have a 2500 barton, and want to upgrade, also have 1gig of pc2700 ram and a Radeon X800pro 256mb vc.

Buying a new mb and a 64bit cpu is out of the question.

So my question is, will a jump from 2500 to 3200 be a huge boost in performance for gaming?

I've previously purchased from these guys before, I would rather reccommend Newegg or Directron but they are out of stock with no future plans of acquiring any.

You can use your present RAM and run the CPU at 333mhz FSB but to get the full benefit of the 400mhz FSB the CPU is capable of, you'll need to upgrade your RAM later on to PC3200, but you don't have to do that right off if you cannot afford to do so.

There are actually retail boxed versions still available but the prices on them instead of OEM are more than when the AMD XP3200+ was first released.

The 3200+ runs stock at 2200mhz and with some of the dual channel M/Bs still available like the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe that unlocks the multiplier you can get higher CPU speeds by just changing the multiplier and not messing with the FSB setting at all, I'm running a 12X multiplier at 2400mhz on the CPU rock solid with just PC3200 RAM.

Your Graphics card is great and has more impact on gaming performance, there will be a difference in the CPU upgrade but not as much as you may be anticipating, as far as gaming performance is concerned.

What M/B do you presently have?
 
I think you should find out where your bottleneck is. Turn down your video settings (turn off AA, AF, lower resolution, etc.) and see if the fps goes up. If it does, your video card is the problem. If not, then you'll see a boost from the CPU.

If its the CPU, what motherboard do you have? I have a 2600+ and it's running at nearly 3200+ speeds right now. I have a mobo that can't adjust anything except mhz and PCI bus divider. If you have a good mobo (unlike mine), you can probably get that thing to 3200+ speeds easily.

Then you turn around and tell him to use a multiplier overclock. Sorry, the XP chips have not had an unlocked multiplier for almost 2 years now.

He cannot run PC2700 RAM at 400mhz as you suggested! If he was running PC3200 RAM and a good OCing M/b he may be able to do what you suggested, but he's not going to do it with PC2700/333mhz RAM.

I said he'd have to go to PC3200 RAM, read what I posted! and FYI the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe M/B automatically unlocks the multiplier on the AMD XP3200+, anyone that has one of those M/Bs knows that.

If you're going to advise someone here, give them true information not BS

You probably have one already. Set your memory to a 5/6 divider, and up your fsb to 200, eh voila cette une xp3200.

If you ment run the chip @ 166, that would be an xp2500, so what would be the point? You must have ment using a divider.
By the way, I have an A7N8X-E deluxe upstairs. It will not unlock the multipliers in the xp2500 that is in it. It will unlock the multipliers in an older xp2500, that I had before (sold it to a friend). If yours is unlocked, it is from an older chip. It is not because of the mobo, period.
 
I meant exactly what I said, try reading what I said, its not my fault you cannot understand what I'm saying! I'm running an AMD XP 3200+ and its not an older chip as you say, with a 12x multiplier on an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe M/B, I also have a friend here at the forums running the exact same thing, the same way. PC2700 RAM is not capable of being pushed to 400mhz, I also have a machine running PC2700 Corsair XMSLL C2 RAM and it will not run at 400mhz, sell your BS to someone else.

Thanks for illustrating the point I was trying to make, even with the divider the PC2700 RAM is still only running at 333mhz, I know your post was an additional insult, but your mathematical illustration proves what I was trying to get across in the first place.

Not everyone OC's their machines, thats why theres a dedicated OC section here at the forums.

Using a 5/6 divider doesn't change the speed the RAM is running!

And like I posted on another thread, my current Idle temp is 51-52c on the cpu.

I'm not trying to push you into OCing, this arguement arose from the other suggestions you've received.

But forget all that! You originally were interested in acquiring an AMD XP3200+ and I supplied the link that you could purchase one from if you so desired.

You're not required to OC a thing and I apologize for even getting into an arguement about it, this isn't the OCing section in the first place.

I am sorry if you thought I was saying you should OC. My suggestion was just that. You have a problem with heat. You should correct that before trying the new chip. Without a fix for your heat problem, the xp3200 will make matters worse.
 
Were you saying that an xp2500 running @ 3200 speeds but with a 166/333 ram bus will not perform as well as it would with pc3200? That I would agree with. It will however perform significantly better than a straight xp2500, without OC.
On your board, you could set the fsb to 200/400, then set the ram speed to 83%. That way you have a fsb of 200/400, but can use pc2700.
If I have ever done something to anger you, I am sorry. I have read a lot of your posts, and you are generally quite pleasant, and helpfull.

Again, I say to ladic, OCing is only for some, there is no reason to attempt it if you dont want to. That was why my first post was short. If you were interested, I thought you would respond. Seeing as you did not respond, I assumed that like most people, you felt getting the real xp3200 was a better idea.
I will also point out again, that you should correct your heat issues, before installing the xp3200, as it does use more power than an xp2500.
