Hello all

My question is: does anyone know where I can buy the Heisei HRU-314R3? I'm based in England. This task seems to be a bit of challenge and I'd appreciate some help. I have emailed the manufacturer already but I'm not counting on a reply.

Background: I've spent quite a lot of time searching for an internal card reader that I like over the last few days. The reason why I've done this is because the 'standard' internal card reader isn't well suited to my needs. I don't need Sony formats or Compact Flash. I'd be better off with a few SD and MicroSD slots to assist with managing my cards. While there is a market for multi-format readers, I'm not part of it. Furthermore, I think that running a card reader over USB introduces limitations. PCI-e card readers can work with SDIO and I expect they could exceed USB 3.0 speeds, as well as allowing booting from an SD card. A SATA-based card reader would also allow booting from SD. I believe SATA is a cheaper alternative to USB 3.0 with a huge user-base, but the only reader I have found is very expensive. I don't need SDIO, but the boot option would be nice. The point is that the market isn't especially varied, and in my opinion most of the products in this category are ill-thought out.

If you've read this far then these products may be of interest:
SATA 1.5 multi-format card reader.
PCI-e SDIO/SDHC UHS-1 card reader (slot on rear plate).
PCI-e SDIO/SDHC UHS-1 PCB.
SDXC + MicroSD + USB 3.0 internal card reader
SDXC + USB 3.0 (SD reader speed unknown).
External SD card reader with multiple slots.
That list took me a while to compile, so hopefully this will show up in some search results and help others.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Heisei as it does most of what I need and it's not too cluttered. I would prefer if the card bus was native PCI-e but having looked around a lot, I guess you can't have it all. I can boot from USB and don't really need SDIO anyway 🙂

Thanks

To at least move towards an answer, it turns out that this product is available in America as the Koutech IO-RCM430. That's a big step in the right direction 🙂 Expensive though!
