I'm swapping motherboards after a board failure but the mount for the AMD FX 8150 water cooler is the square one but with the new board I need the rectangular mount where can I buy the brackets that go around the block and change it to the rectangular bolt mount pattern I need for the new board? I can't seem to find them I rather not have to buy a whole new cooler because of a faulty board.

Thanks

An AMD FX 8150 CPU requires an AM3+ motherboard.

All AM3+ motherboards come with the correct mounting hardware.

Even your water cooler should fit the same AM3+ motherboard if it worked with that CPU previously. If not, contact the company that made the cooler. Often, they will provide any needed adapters free of charge to keep you happy if that is the case.

I don't think you are understanding.

If the CPU cooler came with your HP then it is using a proprietary bracket just for HP. HP is not going to make an adapter bracket for their proprietary setup to fit on a non-HP setup. HP has zero reason to do this because the only thing you should do in their eyes is to buy a better (more expensive) pc from them.

There was even a period of time (until it got taken to court and they said they could not do that) where HP designed BIOS to allow allow a very short list of ram, gpu, and wifi chip and reject all others.

The bracket comes off as it does with the non proprietary cooler, it's the same block they just replaced the bracket which is easily slid off I'm holding it in my hand right now. It only requires the standard bracket to convert over to the normal one don't need an adapter or anything to do it, just the normal bracket there has to be replacement parts somewhere for the normal coolers.
