But - it might turn that there is simply NO Windows 7 driver for your sound card. Cheap (less than $10) USB audio adapter can provide you with sound and mic.

I'm beginning to think you're right. So far, no luck on a solution. I'll keep looking for a bit. I might just get lucky.
