I need a sata driver to install windows on a harddrive for my sister's new pc.

When I try to install windows on her pc it claims it can't find a harddrive. From what I've seen this is a pretty common problem, and i understand how to solve it, but I can't find a driver that works.

I want to install windows 8 pro 64-bit on a western digital green 2TB harddrive. the motherboard I use is a asus H61M-K, but I experienced the same problem with another motherboard so it shouldn't matter.

Where can I find a good sata-driver?

Welcome to the TH community, W_huyskes!

You should go to the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website and find your model, there should be listed all the available driver downloads and updates that you'd need in order to get the WD Green recognized via SATA. Since this HDD is designed for massive secondary storage, it's not really advisable to use it for booting. Due to its IntelliPower RPM, the drive regularly spins down when not in use, which could affect the PC performance, so keep that in mind as well.

Good luck! Keep me posted if you need further assistance! :)

Thanks for the reply. My problems still aren't quite fixed. Does it matter what harddrive I use for what drivers I have to use? Because I tried the latest version of the SATA drivers of the mobo I'm using, but that didn't work. I didn't see and option to select different harddrives or types of harddrives.

I know you shouldn't use WD green harddrives as a boot-drive. But my sister bought all the parts and she didn't want an SSD and I think she bought this drive because it is a cheap 2TB drive. thanks for the help anyways.

Hey there again, W_huyskes!

No, the SATA controller drivers are universal, they are not HDD-specific. Since that didn't work, I'd suggest to try resetting BIOS using one of these methods: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
Just make sure you reconfigure the BIOS settings afterwards, as they will get back to factory defaults.
If you have access to another computer, try plugging the WD Green drive there and see if it will get properly recognized there.
Have you tried swapping the SATA cables and the SATA port on the mobo as well?

Keep me posted!
