Colonial is unbalanced and not very fun. Stick with original, or go for a
better variant like Modern.

Unbalanced variants can be fun, like the major vs. minor powers variant.

Colonial is boring. It is dominated by tactics (there are two many units vs.
places), and the alliances tend to be frozen (at least that was my
experience).
