Where Can The Asus Hyper Express SSD Be Bought?

I've been interested in SATA Express lately and it seems that the only SATA Express SSD is the Asus Hyper Express as of now. (Yes I know that it's basically an adapter.) I can't find it available for purchase anywhere though. Does anyone know where it can be bought and if it can't when it will be available?
 
I cant comment on its availibility, but my ASUS Z97 E has the SATA express directly attached to the motherboard.

So based on that? I think its mainly a motherboard thing that will be more predominant when the X99 boards come out

What do you mean by "when the X99 boards come out"? Do you mean X99 boards in general or do you mean a new X99 motherboard from Asus?
 
I meant in general, but its doubtful that ASUS will allow their tech to be another board. More than likely, other companies will have their version of SATA express.

As of right now, to my knowledge, ASUS is the only company putting SATA express on their boards on Z97 and X99.

That is likely to change, with SSD's becoming cheaper and people wanting to get those 10gbps speeds.
 


Actually a large number of Z97 and X99 Boards have SATA Express support.

If you are still looking for Asus Hyper Express ssd card you can find the card without an ssd on it from eBay. Then you can purchase a SSD M.2 version for Samsung or Plextor that will fit the card, that being said most of the X99 and Z170 boards now have a M.2 pcie slot built into the motherboard making the Hyper Express card not necessary. I know your post is from a while back but just what to make sure you knew what is available now if you didn't know.
 
There are no SATA Expess consumer ssd's being manufactured. The SATA Express standard was a last ditch effort by the SATA organization to try and compete with new PCIe and M.2 ssd's. Motherboard and mobile pc manufacturers bypassed SATA Express ssd's because the new PCIe and M.2 ssd's already outperformed SATA Express. In addition the M.2 drives were more attractive because they were small enough to fit in tablets and notebooks. It also solved a problem. One small ssd could work for both desktop and mobile pc's. Mobile pc's have been outselling desktop pc's and this year will be a banner year for the mobile market. It sort of like a one size fits all situation.

The Asus Hyper Express is not an ssd. It is an adapter that can handle either two M.2 ssd's or two mSATA ssd's that are connected to a motherboard via a SATA Express cable. A consumer would still have to purchase the ssd's. The other problem is that the M.2 ssd performance is limited to PCIe 2.0 x 2. There are PCIe 3.0 x 4 and M.2 3.0 x 4 ssd's that perform much better.

I have the new Samsung 950 pro SSD's M.2 pcie 3.0x 4 that I'm going to use with my X99 and Z170 builds that I'm getting ready to put together. Also have the new Intel 750 that uses the U.2 interface that is present right on Asus's Maximus Viii Hero Alpha motherboard without having to use the M.2 to U2 adapter. So I will be using the 750 for a boot drive on that board and the Samsung 950 pro on my Asus X99 Maximus Viii extreme build for a boot drive.
