where do drivers get installed to? why would they suddenly stop working for touchscreen

My touchscreen function isn’t working on my pc hmi after I turned it off for two weeks.

I swapped it out and the screen workedas expected

Where do touchscreen drivers get installed to? The hard drive? I changed the harddrives and that didn’t make it work and the unit that they were in the touchscreen was working which leads me to think it’s something else.

I think I’ve confused myself by thinking too much or maybe too little
