Where do I ask a DIY Home Security question?

Depends on what kind of home security you are talking about? networking, windows, etc. I would say if it includes a lot of them ask either in the networking if that is included or in whatever version of windows is your primary OS section, but since you are here just tell us what you have going on.

Thanks for the reply, I have 4 cheap analog bullet cams running to a dvr/nvr with no hard drive and sending the signal via rca to my tv tuner/capture card and monitored with securecam2 which has motion detection and saving images on my computer. If someone breaks in while I'm gone, I'm SOOL. I would like to place 1 cam inside and have it send pics through an FTP server to a remote server on detection so at least if they take my computers I'll maybe have a pic or two of them offsite. Is there software or anything short of buying an IP camera that could enable this? I have a D-Link 930LB IP camera I returning because of the very poor picture quality. (out of focus, fuzzy after 3 feet)

Hmmmm...Their should be away but I'm not sure about the the SecureCam2. I do deal with DVR's like Qee, Lorex, and other brands both Analog, CVI, TVI, and IP, some of which were running of a PC itself with capture cards and software called Eyemax. I'm not sure about that software but if the securecam2 software can take snap shots pictures of stuff and have it saved in another location you could put it on like a google drive or dropbox so once it is saved there it gets uploaded then and their. I tend to try and hide my clients DVR's as best as I can so that if they are broken into it takes them a while to find it and hopefully they don't before the cops get there.

Thanks for answering. I saw someplace (?) late last night that had a "converter" that (I think) changed the signal to something that could traverse an ethernet cable and get sent either FTP or SMTP through your router, not sure if it was for analog or digital cameras. I may have to go with a webcam and one of the choices of freeware that will FTP to my website and if I get hit at least the pics will be up. I wish I could find an app that would dial my cell phone instead of depending on a monitoring app to watch my gmail account. (very unreliable and suck up background data on an android phone)
