So you do mean to strap a fan to the outside of the PSU? Bad idea, I wouldn't do that. You don't need to solder it in unless you clipped the old fan wires close to the PCB. You can strip the isolation and just twist together. Electrical tape both the connection and the wires to the side of the case. It's ugly and not the best, but it's doable. If you were just going to strap a fan to the outside of the case I wouldn't bother. It's dead to you at that point.

Either way it's a low quality crap unit.

Either way it was a decent unit 10 years ago. I do think that you're better off replacing a unit that old than trying to replace the fan though.

ill Just go for the easy solution and mount a molex fan on top

As in mounted outside of the case? I really doubt that will provide the cooling needed. You need to mount the fan inside the unit. And the fan needs to have the same if not more CFM rating as the old one. If the old fan was a 45CFM fan and was obviously mounted inside the unit and you strap a 20CFM fan to the outside, you are going to kill the PSU. What I would do is cut the wires to the old fan, leaving the leads soldered to the PCB. Remove the old fan and mount the new one in. Cut the leads off the new fan and just twist and tape the wires together. You should also tape the wires to the case of the PSU so they don't get in the way. You could also strip the old wires and attach them to the clip of the new fan, though how easy that is depends on the clip used.

If you have no idea what I just said, toss it.

475454b i meant on top of the psu maybe get a 1500 rpm fan to blow in my psy the system doesnt use more than 400w and the old fan blew low rpm.
im not sure yet what im gonna do with it i would try your tactic but the fan is 135 mm i guess that 140mm doesnt fit

As for the other guy, as shit as the vertex and memory series of ocz was, the modxstream series are actually made from good quality components and is very reliable,

I found one with the right connector on aliexpress for 7 bucks.
Because i thought it was 140 mm at first it only showed case fans 😛 it was 135
appriciate the help tho, would've done that if i didn't find one, you know your stuff
