It's darn near impossible to find a B450 motherboard anywhere in stock, and when I do it is at a very elevated price. Almost no free shipping anymore either. Is this a result of the pandemic maybe?

Solution
Yeah because of the COVID-19 stuff going around MB manufactures haven't been able to produce as they should. Once this all blows over everything should be back to normal.

After a little bit more research, I just realized it wasn't just motherboards. It's everything in a PC! Everything that comes from Asia (i.e. China). CPU, Memory, PSUs, Cases... Are we still in that stupid trade war with China too?

i built a pc a few weeks ago and had a heck of time finding most pieces in stock. i ended up picking a couple parts that were not first choice just to get it built.

you're just going to have to set up email alerts if you can or check the sites more than once a day to try and catch stuff in stock. newegg and amazon are not price gouging but all the 3rd party sellers sure are. i saw a sata cable the other day that was 99 cents with $19.99 shipping!!!

just keep checking in and eventually you'll find it in stock. do note that we are very close to seeing b550 boards so keep an eye there. you might accidently find a decent board there before b450 comes back in stock. tom's has an article about models and they are a bit pricey so it may not be worth it to you, but do keep in mind they come out pretty soon. now if they will actually be in stock or at advertised prices remains to be seen :-/

Man.. at least it isn't as bad as the gpu/mining crap from a few years ago. Once China gets healthier they will start catching up on parts and pieces. Also Korea is a big place too.

looking over the specs of some of the boards on newegg, i only see pcie 4.0 as the new feature. the gpu does not need it. so basically it's the 4.0 m.2 slot you're paying for.

these drives start at twice what you pay for 3.0 drives at 500 gb models and it gets worse the bigger the drive is. not sure a "budget" builder is going to spend the cash for such a drive.

so in other words, unless you just have to have a 4.0 m.2 slot, then a b550 board is not really the "must have" chipset. a b450 would do just fine and looks like cheaper for now as well.

In a sense, this is worse than the gpu mining craze.
The mining craze just affected gpu pricing. Covid is affecting just about everything.

Seriously, though. Screw those 3rd party sellers. Price gouging jerks...

I just upgraded my wife's s system from a Fx-6300 build and had to watch the stock come and go very quickly
at my local Micro Center. I probable switched b450 mobo's 4 times because of the stock on hand.
I was going to put in a b450 but landed on a Steal from them.
I was able to grab a New Asus Ch7 X470 non- wifi for $159.99 it would have been $179.99 If I didn't buy a cpu with.
It stayed in stock long enough for me to reserve it and get back home to go get the parts.
So at this time be Ready to Jump when the parts you want are in stock and the Prices is Right.

PS: that mobo was 3000 Ready on the box.
