Hi everyone, this is my first post on here, so sorry if this seems kind of amateur. But I had just recently built my first computer and it runs prett good for the most part. The only issue I have is with GTA V where it will run a solid 60fps for a while, but then it'll drop to about 30-40 at random times, usually more so when I'm driving around. Someone had mentioned that the VRM in the motherboard is overheating and is causing the CPU to thermal throttle. I've looked at other boards just to see where they usually lay, but on mine, it seems nowhere to be seen. Am I missing something or is it built different or what? I'll put a link to a picture of it. Please help, thanks. :)

Each of the boxes with R60 on them are the chokes for the VRMs.

Thanks a lot! I seen that people have gotten these heat sinks that go on there and it's helped them, so I'll probably do the same. Thanks again!

Okay, I'll just mess with the settings and see what works best. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, they're pretty good. Both my CPU and GPU never pass 50C. I'm not sure about what the temps are on the board though.

The board temps would be an indicator as to whether or not your VRMs were getting too hot. Use something like HWinfo and check board temps after the drop in fps happens again.

Just tested it now, the temps raised only a little bit, but wasn't all that much. It was about the same time during frame drops too.

Sorry for the late reply. My setting are set lower than his and it dips a lot worse and more often than his. I also watched his video where he was in the city while blowing stuff up. The lowest it went was 48fps for a split second while mine, with lower settings went as low as 29fps and dips lasted a lot longer. They can last up to 20 seconds at most, even when just standing still. I have read that there was an update (after the time this video was uploaded) that caused the same issue i'm having. Some people that have had this issue have better hardware than I do. Maybe that could be the problem as it doesn't happen with any other game.

If this is the only game you are experiencing this in, I'd say you are on the right track...

If this is the case then I'm sure there will be some kind of patch or update. If not, then there will probably be some kind of user created patch. Either way, thanks a lot. Totally saved me from wasting 20 bucks. :)

Hate to bring up a dead topic, but almost a year later and here's what happened. I bought the Asrock Z77 Extreme 4. The weird issues I was facing was caused by the old board. With this new board, the problem I was having was completely erased. On top of that, I was able to overclock my CPU to GHz opposed to the 3.4 base clock. 😉
