New Dell arrived right before dinner. Have it set up but I can't see
where I go to make that one time copy of the OS? I probably am blind
but any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you have a burner (and from previous posts I gather you do), it
should be under start/programs/dell accessories/create a restore CD, or
something very similar to that in the start menu....

What's so disturbing. I bought one machine a while back and the option
to burn the CD wasn't there. I sent an e-mail to Dell and within a
couple of hours got an appology that a batch of machines had gone out
without it installed. I had a CD shipped to me the next day.

My recent laptop purchase had the feature available and it took less
than 5 minutes to burn the CD. I'm sure if I e-mailed them telling them
that the burn failed they would have shipped one.

Dell is no longer shipping OS CDs with PCs?

No. They ship them with an OS image and a utility to burn your own OS CD.
It's not an image CD, but a true OS CD.

Laptops, well at least the Latitude series in the small business
section, still offer OS w/ media as an option (no added cost).

Optiplex and Precision Workstation desktops come with the media as a
no-cost option as well.

I should have been more specific in saying Dimension and Inspiron lines.

Tom,

FYI, my new Inspiron 9300 with Media Center did not have the OS CD image on
the HD. I had tech support walk me through where it should be, but it wasn't
there. They were very willing to send the media.
