Hey guys, started a new build and running into a ton of dead ends. LOVE this website, gave a shoutout in an article series I'm doing on the experience. Up now is this issue where I have no idea where to plug in a monitor to attempt the first boot. The eSATA plugin looks like it might be an HDMI, but a search didn't give me the answer. I didn't even know there were monitors that plugged into computers via HDMI, although I've got mine plugged into a 360 that way, until I did the search, so that gives you an idea of my level of experience.

Here's a photo of the plugins on my motherboard, the only ones you don't see are the audio jacks.

Are the top 4 red ones 2.0 USB? The fuzzy green writing says "USB BIOS Flashback".

Solution

Remote desktop lets you control another pc over a network...
You don't seem to have any onboard video ports. This is very strange, and I have never seen anything quite like it. It looks like you have to use a video card.

the red USB's are 2.0 and the blue are 3.0.

Also eSATA ports are for external Hard Drives, you cannot use them for video.

What on earth are you talking about? this is an AM3+ board. There is no integrated GPU. You HAVE to have a graphics card or connect via remote desktop. did you seriously try and force HDMI into an ESATA port? Why?

I can honestly only assume Donny is 13 because integrated graphics were NEVER the norm until very recently

Why do you have to be so rude to the guy? Just give him a straight forward answer instead of insulting his intelligence as well as my own.

(I'm also 16 by the way and I don't bother with AM3/AM3+ socket motherboards so no I did not expect it to not have an onboard video port like almost all motherboard I have ever seen. I use an FM2/ FM2+ socket motherboard)

Yeah, don't worry about unksol, Donny, he clearly has social issues. Apparently he also can't read, as I never said I tried to put the HDMI in the eSATA port. ALSO, I too have NEVER seen a computer without integrated graphics, and I've owned computers for a long time, so don't let him make you feel stupid.

Obviously if I knew the answers, I wouldn't be here asking questions, and neither would countless others. Kindness and patience are appreciated.

Now I'm off to explore what the heck a remote desktop is, I'm assuming it's a way to access my second computer via a network, but don't get your panties in a bunch, unksol, I won't punch any buttons until I know for sure ;p

Remote desktop lets you control another pc over a network, so your right about that. As for the video problem, there are plenty of cheap GPU's out there. I used to have an NVIDIA Gt 610 and it was pretty good for the low price (not for gaming though).

I'm just going to brace myself for whatever childish come-back I recieve from Unksol. I hope it gives me a good laugh 😀

Solution

Thanks for the verification on remote desktops. As for a video card, I ordered one when I ordered the rest of the parts for my build, it's just back ordered. I wanted to boot it up today, see if it all woiks. It's all good, I'll just wait until I get the card.

Ok, happy to help!
