Hello. I will be building a PC today probably and I just got an anti static wrist strap because it was cheap and I wanted to be on the safe side. I've read that you must connect the power supply to a wall outlet and turn it off from the power switch and connect the wrist strap there. But then some people say that this is very dangerous and may kill you. The other method I've read about is attaching the wrist strap just to the metal case. But some people say it doesn't even work. I'm really confused. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Yeah, don't ground yourself to your computer while your computer is connected to the wall. That can hurt if you're unlucky. :)
Unplug your PC, connect the wrist strap to a metal part on your PC chassis. You'll then be at the same charge as your PC which makes it unlikely that you'll damage anything on the motherboard with static electricity.
