Hello everyone, I am looking to upgrade my old Aurora R3. Currently this is what I have.

Alienware Aurora-R3

Nvidia GTX 590

2TB ( 2x 1TB) SATA II (3Gb/s) 7,200RPM (2 x 32MB Cache)

8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1866M Hz

Intel Core i7-2600K (8MB Cache ) Overclocked Turbo Boost to 4 .1GHz

Alienware High-Performance Liq uid Cooling

Matte Stealth Black Alienware Aurora w/ 875W Multi-GPU Appro ved PSU

As stated earlier I am a noob and I don’t really know where to start. Any pointers would be very helpful.

Thank you,

Your CPU is fine, 8GB RAM is decent, the most performance you gain by a GPU upgrade as yeti_yeti wrote. Your rig can handle a gtx1060, RX580 or a used gtx980, gtx980ti, R9 fury.
Those are all great cards (for 1080p), the question is, how much are you intended to spend and what resolution and frame rate are you targeting.

Unless you want to step up to WQHD, keep your platform. For 60fps @ 1080p gaming you can upgrade your GPU.

I wanted to be under $1000. Honestly I don’t do nearly as much gaming as I used to, maybe a little league or overwatch but that’s about it. Most of the time I am 3d modeling on it.

For e sports games your system is fine. Do not change it then!

Now that’s not to say that I won’t start gaming more in the future. The computer itself seems to struggle when rendering 3d models. Do you think GPU upgrade and RAM to 16GB (seeing as how that is the max I can put in) would be sufficient?
