where to buy: WHO CAN I TRUST.MicroCenter used parts being sold as NEW?!?!

Is everything sold on Newegg, TigerDirect, and other popular websites actually new? How can i ensure im getting new parts from retailers?

■ Heres a horror story for you, i went to micro center and picked up a Asrock 970 extreme4 MOBO and a FX-6350 Black edition. i get home and upon closer inspection theres scratches on the mobo, from obvious use, and the CPU has markings on the four corners where the old CPU fan sat on top.
■ Also i noticed the layer of old thermal compound that wasnt fully wiped off and still visible, very very dissapointed. they were on sale, but being sold "normally" at the price of a new item..

Now im afraid if i order from Newegg ill get more second hand parts that wont last nearly as long.

I have ordered thousands of dollars worth of NEW computer parts from Newegg and never had an issue.

I'd take those parts back and try to find out why they were sold as new.

Thats strange my local micro center has always been great to me, but Newegg is a great choice for PC parts

breezy i used to be a servie tech at micro center a long time ago. when i worked anything that was opened was maked down with a .66 on the end and yellow open box label. if a cpu and mb came back we used to test them in the back to see if they were dead or not. the store manager we had at the store meeting said for us not to do what the old comp usa got sued for and that was putting used or old product back on the shelf and reselling it as new. few people that comp did this too sue and won in small claims court. the biggest beef i have from working there is i know the old computer keep a record of the sale/return by serial number. did the serial number of the mb match the box?? did it look like someone took an older mb and returned it and the csr and parts guys missed it?? I seen people pull the lables off mb and return old dead parts before. newegg and some other sites do sell open box parts..they only send you one if you buy it on there web page if you do get one then someone in the weahouse was asleep at the wheel.

Well, i already returned it for all my money back, the customer service was very accommodating and friendly. I kept the Hyper CPU cooler and fractal design tower i bought since they look fine. Im going to go ahead and order from newegg. The CPU was sold in combo with MOBO for 40$ off, but nothing was marked as clearance, opened, or .66 anything. They offered me to look at other ones that might look "acceptable" lol. When i saw old thermal compound that failed to be cleaned off the CPU...i knew something was weird. plus the marks on each of the corners were darkish and did not look like a part of the production process..the face of the chip should be clean and look new.

Over the past 10 years I've probably ordered over $10,000 worth of stuff from Newegg and never had a problem, other than the very occasional DOA new part (dead on arrival). I've also bought from Micro Center and never had a problem, so both of them are good as far as I'm concerned.

Believe it or not...I just got my newegg shipment in the mail...motherboard and RAM look great...but the CPU, like at microcenter, is fu**ing used. Now im pissed. Not used quite nearly to the degree as the one from microcenter, but has an obvious layer of thermal paste on it, and as light marks on each of the four corners. just like the one from microcenter. because I imagined I would get a NEW cpu...a CLEAN lookin one, I know they freakin exist. I guess im jus not privy to one

update: i called newegg and explained my situation..turns out Newegg and MicroCenter use the same suppliers, so this problem is obviously higher up than i realized. CPU's are normally non returnable, but my support tech has been kind enough to set me up with a full return, the return box will arrive soon i hope..I will just buy through amd's website like i should have in the first place...honestly, didn't realize i even could

upon further research i find that the chip i received is labled fd6300wmw6khk and the box is labled as a fd6300wmhkbox, meaning it came from a BOX, meaning it should be new. The former means it is oem and had to have been "pulled" or possibly "factory reconditioned". Im suspecting something fishy at the manufacturer level here..or something pretty high up, as both microcenter and newegg were both very accommodating to my situation. If i buy through amd and it too look used, ill just deal with it, but so far im just a little dissapointed as this is my first build experience :/

found they were selling fake cpu. newegg stopped using them as a vendor. to let you know most of these cpu are made and packaged overseas and shipped to newegg and micro center. if newegg does there back checking there going to see who they got the cpu from and check that lot.

furthermore it turns out amd doesnt actually sell the junk, it just links me to various online retailers...like newegg and microcenter...the people who originally f'd me over. As of now im lost, and my build progress has reached a standstill, now that i cant buy a proper fx 6300 anywhere.

just bought a "new, factory sealed, untouched" for 130$ after shipping/tax, which is more than i was paying on newegg and microcenter..hopefully that increase in price means its a solid unit. At least, if this goes south too, amazon has a decent return policy..

Oh i already shipped it back, for a full refund. Again i dont think this has anything to do with newegg or microcenter. They dont open or test products, they are the middle man. My thinking is one of the companies close to the manufacturer that handles selling large volumes to consumer retailers (i.e newegg, ncix, microcenter, what have you), has either made a huge mistake, or is trying to sell pulled/refurbed chips. Of course this is disappointing everyone (making money) and dissapearing, all while im sure the good chips are somewhere in china . OR OR OR i could just be a very unlucky SOB who got 2 used chips from 2 different retailers. My hopes at this point, is that buying through a smaller vendor on Amazon, ill get a real sealed new chip that was produced before these used looking ones.
The worst part is they probably think im scamming them buy purchasing, returning an existing used], while keeping the new one, and getting my money back. (This is what the microcenter guy and i concluded was probably the case), but then it happened on newegg too? not even a week later, might i add. and again, the newegg guy said they and microcenter share a supplier, so this is why i think its a bit higher up

But once the sales rep took it, I didn't get the list back till I walked out the store. I didn't know that they price matched so I ended up buying the whole build.

One thing I didn't have on the list was 'thermal compound'. The sales rep told me that I needed it and since he was helpful this whole time, I bought it. Little did I know that the after market CPU fan that I chose already had a tube of thermal compound. The rep was either ignorant or a shyster.

I will be back there tomorrow to return the individually sold compound and hopefully upgrade the case and RAM. The rep told me that the fx-6300 & asrock 970 ex4 don't do 1866 RAM. I want to double check with someone else.

He may have mentioned wanting a "premmiiummmm" compound, lol. Never said the hyper didnt come with it tho. In all honesty though im sure you were just misinformed, he didnt know

when you see the sales man says thank you. your better of when you build your own for the first time to have a extra tube of thermal paste in case you make an error and have to remove the cpu cooler. also these people are not techs or gamers like we are. most of these people are normal people that read the box as there moved about the store. when i was one of the tech in the repair center (if you have good tech in the store that are helpful). I used to get sales guys asking me does this work with that and other tech question. most of these sales guys learn when a product sale guy comes in on a weekend to push products. there given 20 min demo and that it and some free product.
