Greetings,
a friend of mine has a G6-300 that the PSU has given up the
ghost. I purchased an ATX power supply, but it doensn't fit
the opening in the back of the case.

Where can you buy replacement PSU's that will fit ?

thanks,
Darryl

Darryl,

If you can't find one locally, measure the distances between the mounting screw
holes on the back of the case and measure the depth of the power supply from the
back of the case. Also, does the old power supply have some sort of cowl or
shroud that comes over the CPU? What are the manufacturer and manufacturer's
part number on the PSU? I can probably match up a power supply for you, not for
big bucks either.

After a promising start during which almost everyone in the industry used ATX
power supplies with the same dimensions and mountings, the industry has diverged
wildly and now ATX power supplies come in all shapes and sizes... Ben Myers

Darryl,

I need to know the number of mounting screws (3 or 4), their pattern (e.g. 4
screws in a trapezoid shape) and the distance between screws. Also the depth of
the power supply, and the position of the power supply fan. Gateway part number
is useful for an exact match, but not essential. Gateway P2 and P3 systems use
power supplies with ATX connectors. Differences among supposedly "standard" ATX
power supplies have to do with size, position of interior openings for
ventilation, and external outboard fans (a Gateway favorite)... Ben Myers
