I have just out together a new computer using an ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 in a Cooler Master K380 case... I have lost the case plans, and after plugging everything else in correctly, I'm at aloss as to where to connect the AC'97.. I am a novice with the building of PC's so a little help would be appreciated...
And for anyone interested, this is my build.....
Asus M5A97 evo R2.0 board
MSI R9 270X 2gb
Evga 750w fully mod gold psu
1 TB hhd 128gb ssd
8 gb Ram
AMD FX 8350 cpu

I have gone alittle over boardwith the parts, started out with a smaller wishlist, but bought the bits and pieces over the last 6 months as and when I could afford each part, so when I had alittle extra, I went for the better CPU and Card..
Will be using it mostly for gaming... what do you think... will it serve me for atleast the next 5 years?

Your front panel audio connector likely has 2 connectors on it. One for AC97 and the other for HD Audio. You only use one of them and they can both be connected to the same header on your motherboard.

The manual can be found here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_EVO_R20/HelpDesk_Manual/

Cheers, I already connected the HD Audio connector in that exact location, just was unsure what AC'97 was and where it went, if indeed it did need to go anywhere... But you have solved that for me.. leave it unplugged.. Brillant. Cheers for the help...

Actually, while I have you here, the board has an SPDIF OUT connect on it, Just above the AC'97 connect point is a connect for an SPDIF to be connected, but I have no cable.. do I need to worry about this,or is this for something unrelated to the input on the back panel i/o?

again cheers.
