This is the first PC I've built and these are the only two cords left to plug in. I have an Asus 787 Pro motherboard and a Cooler Master Half X case.

Solution

FireWire was a semi-popular add-on to motherboards and sound cards until USB2 came along and removed most of the motivation to bother with it. USB3 and Thunderbolt are the final nails on that coffin.
And NEVER EVER EVER EVER plug your 1394 into a USB header. Or you put the "Fire" in "Firewire". Literally.

And to my knowledge, Z87 chipset motherboards don't usually have a 1394 header onboard. (Again, the word is USUALLY) Mostly because of the favor for Thunderbolt support and that 1394 never took off as a major data transfer platform and was only "main stream" about six years ago (maybe longer).
