Haven’t really played with multiple hard drives since the x286 and Turbo button days. About to move stuff onto a new system with a 256GB SSD preinstalled with the operating system, etc. I will also add another 1 or 2 TB of storage, probably SSD, but HDD is also possible. Not sure how much space will be available on the 256 after I remove bloatware, but the current old system is using 400GB, so something is going to the extra drive.

How does one decide how to configure program installs, etc with two drives? Obviously the intensive stuff is better on an SSD, and the SATA drive will be slower, but for a no more than a mild gaming and processing use system, how do I decide what to put where? I would assume any graphics intensive stuff would be best on the 256 with the OS, or does it matter if they are both SSD’s?

Solution
OS and all applications go on the same SSD, the 256GB.

Game installs via Steam can go on other drives.
Your personal data also goes on other drives.

And you do NOT need to manually/forcefully redirect the Libraries (Doc/Music/Video/etc).
Simply create a couple of folders on the other drives, and save things to that.
Windows and applications have gotten really good at using more than one drive.

The current old system probably have all your user data (documents, pictures, music, work data, movies, etc.) you could move those to he extra drive. First I will check how much space do this use on your current system.
If games are your thing, they should be put out on a different drive too.

Yep, sounds solid.
