Where's all my VRAM (only 3 of 12 GB)?

The Titan X has 12 GB, but Steam only sees 3 GB.

Anyone else have this issue with Big Picture Mode?

How do you fix it?

. . . As a side issue, it's only displaying partial resolution (2560x1440), not full resolution (3440x1440). Even getting it there (past 1080p) required me to use "-fulldesktopres" as a switch on the shortcut. If anyone knows about getting the 21:9 aspect ratio to work, that would be cool too.

I would think Steam's forums might be a better place to ask. If you do get a solution, feel free to post it here though.

The 3GB glitch is interesting. No matter how I look at 12GB I can't get a three to appear in any sort of calculation that might produce odd results when displayed.

As the 21:9 form factor becomes more common I think support will grow, might just have to be patient.

Yeah, I already looked on the Steam forum. There was no answer, so I turned to Tom's. People here generally generally know more about computers beyond the scope of gaming. If this involves something more specific to the operating system or otherwise, that might explain why I wasn't able to find anything over on Steam's forum about how to fix the VRAM reporting (or the 21:9 issue).

Hopefully someone will have a suggestion.

Thanks!

Your computer appears to have teh dumbz.

I see you list two GPUs, are they both installed? Might be confusing dxdiag.

I had some older Nvidia 580s that were 1.5GB and they showed up as 4GB cards. But in that case they were actually reserving system memory for themselves. I don't see why a Titan X would need to do that.

Ah, the system is reserving 16 GB as "Shared System Memory," which ads up (12+16=28). I wonder what Steam's deal is. At least it doesn't seem to limit applications or games launched through Steam, since I can use up to 10 GB of VRAM in certain games if I play for a while (e.g. Rise of the Tomb Raider).

To answer your question, both GPUs are installed properly and working.

Is there a way that you (or anyone) knows of to assign a GPU to an application? It would be nice to have Steam's Big Picture run on the 750 ti because running it on the Titan X consumes about an extra 100 w. I can see on my wattage meeter the 100 w increase and decrease when I run or close Steam Big Picture, respectively.

I have a laptop with Nvidia's "Optimus" tech, which lets you assign an iGPU or the dedicated GPU on an app-by-app basis, but I don't know of any equivalent (nor have I found one) for a desktop machine. Having that ability would actually be great because there are several applications for which the Titan X is totally overkill, and even the 750 ti is more than I need for certain things. Assigning would really to avoid power waste, and the computer would also run cooler.

I found this in a steam thread not long ago
(I know the thread is almost 2 years old)

For the people only seeing 3GB available of their 4GB VRAM in game
Go to...
Computer/Local Disc (C: )/Users/your user name/AppData/Roaming/The Creative Assembly/Attila/scripts/preferences.script

Open with Notepad & scroll down to about the 10th line of stuff & be looking for where it says
gfx_video_memory 0;
Now change the zero to -2000
It should look like this
gfx_video_memory -2000;
Now save the file with the change & boot up Attila. Go to your custom graphics & your full 4GB should be showing available now.
This also works on Rome II.
Cheers!

Also reading about the problem, it seems that it is a bug in Steam's Big Picture Mode, but, i dont think so, as with GPU-Z it only registers my 1070 using only 3GB of VRAM while playing Steam Games.
