wheres the pipeline

Owners manual....detailed .pdf from the website of the vendor (i.e. Nvidia.com, Ati.com) Or you can just ask someone here..someone will know. What card we talking about here?

Well, it'll only have 4 pipes if it is a 9800 SE.

If you're worried, run 3dMark2003 on it and compare your results to those on the web.

If it's an SE (4 pipelines) then it'll have about half the score in the fillrate tests of a regular Radeon 9800 non-pro.

If the scores are comperable, it's 8 pipes.

Radeon 9500 (modded to PRO w/8 pixel pipelines)
AMD AthlonXP 2000+
3dMark03: 3529

Why worry? The number of pipelines alone isn't going to determine the performance. It depends on a lot more factors, and the best way to know is to read all the review you can get...

I think he's worried because of the existance of 9800SEs, which have half the fillrate of the normal 9800.

That's a valid worry, methinks.

Definitely. People often sell the WRONG thing i the RIGHT box to $crew you over. If you're worried, benchmark and compare the results to the other stock speed R9800s and see where yours stacks up.

To the best of my knowledge there is not pipeline/geometry engine identifier program.
The only way to tell/guess is based on benchmark results at 'known' speeds.

Agreed, it's a valid worry. But as far as I know there are enough benchmarks and reviews available for every brand and type of card to make sure you've got the Good Stuff.
