[SOLVED] Whether to buy SSD or HDD for second drive

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S340, which has two storage connections: m.2 and SATA III. Currently I have a Samsung 970 Evo NVMe M.2 512GB.
So I want to buy a backup drive to put in the SATA III slot. I see two options: buy a 1TB Barracuda 2.5 inch HDD or buy a 500GB Crucial SATA SSD for about the same price.
Which will be more reliable?

Solution
The mechanical drive will be cheaper for more storage... and that is about it. The SSD will be much faster, more resilient to impact damage, and more power efficient. The limited number of read/write cycles will probably be an issue if you are constantly installing and uninstalling or are moving files back and forth, but generally a modern SSD will give you 5-10 years before you run into a problem, and longer the less moving files around you do.

What will you use this drive for?

daily backups of the main drive.
Another thing that worries me about the HDD, is that is seems that many of the reviewers on amazon said that it failed after X months.

Daily backups.
As you are at a specific price point, do you need 500GB or 1TB?

Amazon reviews? Those 'fail' reviews don't take into account the hundreds of thousands of others who had no problem with a drive like that.

And, since this is for "backups"...that backup is a second or third copy, right?
If it dies, replace. Your data is still safe on the primary drive.

I’d choose the SSD because it’s 10X faster, it’s quieter and it is more durable (no mechanical stuff spinning around).
