Which 1080 is the "best"?

I've been out of the loop for a long time but its time to upgrade my old 650.

There are just so many to choose from I have no idea where to get started.

Just get any that is well cooled, including vram, with a decent warranty. Pretty much all of them reach the same clocks

Good to hear, I had my eye on msi or evga but if they all preform about the same I'll just get one that goes on sale

generally whichever is cheapest and from a reputable brand with good reviews is a good way to go.

but with that said, evga is regarded as making the best nvidia cards.

AMD's 'new' 500 series (way below 1080), a 'new' 1080 with upgraded vram, a 'new' titan Xp ($1200), and AMD's shiny new Vega card which should be good, no way to tell if it's equivalent to the 1080 or 1080ti though and is probably a month or 2 away. So I would say 1080 now or Vega.

yeah, vega if you want to wait at least a couple months to see how it performs.
