I don't have a spare 7000 series CPU laying around, so I will need a motherboard that is already updated for the X3D chip IDs. (Or the very least a Flash BIOS without a CPU feature which some motherboards do have)
take a look at it what was happening with am4, amd was sending cpu samples for bios updates, extra rma on mainboards, not even talking about wasted time on tech support, either way its extra cost for manufacturers in the long runTake note that the article I linked informs us they should all have BIOS flashback but a manufacturer may choose not to enable it for whatever reason. That's why it's a good idea to check if it's included in the feature list.
3D has nothing to do with it, it's just enlarged cache. 3D just signifies how cache memory is physically placed in the CPU. CPU microcode handles it same as it does with less cache.I don't have a spare 7000 series CPU laying around, so I will need a motherboard that is already updated for the X3D chip IDs. Not quite. Every one of those chips has a chip ID. Even if it's just a respin it could get a new chip ID. If a BIOS sees a chip ID it doesn't know, it won't boot.3D has nothing to do with it, it's just enlarged cache. 3D just signifies how cache memory is physically placed in the CPU. It will probably be a while yet before motherboards with BIOS for the X3d chips make it into the distribution channel, and even then you might find one that's not ready in a sellers old stock so that's not reliable. When you do find one it may have a sticker that says "X3d Ready" on the box...or it may not. Until then it's a good idea to ask the people you buy one from to check for and update the BIOS if needed since many will.I don't have a spare 7000 series CPU laying around, so I will need a motherboard that is already updated for the X3D chip IDs.
