Looking to build another computer here soon in the future. Not sure what the most accurate prices are for an i7-9700 at the moment but my guess is around $300.00. With AMD prices could I end up with a better CPU for $300.00? I know that some say intel is better for gaming etc. This computer may not only be used for gaming but definitely streaming, recording, some graphic design & more.

If you are talking about a 9700 non k, which should be paired with a B or H series chipset, which would limit you to 2666 ram, the 3700x would be superior, across the board. A 9700k, on Z390, can overclock, and use faster ram. At same clocks the 3700x would be faster, in single thread, as AMD has a slight IPC advantage. The 9700k makes up the difference, though, with overclocking. In workstation tasks, Ryzen 7 would be superior. The 9700k is on a dead platform, though, so I wouldn't recommend it, regardless.

Which do you think is the more powerful cpu between the R7 3700x and the i7 9700? I'll compare them as well on a few websites.

the i7 9700 has better single thread processing! So for multitasking the R7 3700x is much better though?

Newegg $259 currently for a 3700x. 9700k is $349, so if looking for comparable pricing, you'd be looking at 10600k/10700/10700k, 3700x/3900x. Don't bother with spending extra on a 3800x over the 3700x, basically the same cpu with different power needs.

As with everything in life it all depends.

The i7 9700 is not really that much better than the 3700X on anything.
For gaming it will all depend on the GPU, something like a RTX 2080TI may lead to a small adavantage (on few games) for the i7 9700, but as you start going down to a more budget card (still pretty strong one) like the RTX 2070/2080 Super both CPU will be basically equal.
As for working/content creation/multithread, etc, yeah the R7 3700X will be the stronger CPU in most if not all of those (on some task by a huge marging).

As for single thread performance AMD is already on pair and sometimes above Intel, the benefit Intel have (in some games and very niche working scenarios) is that they can clock higher and so for that reason they show a better result/performance.

The stock versus stock 9700K versus any Ryzen is not equivalent in gaming and single thread performance and when overclocking which is why you would buy a K CPU the difference just gets bigger. Yes in productivity the Ryzen's better Intel especially at the price points where they really hammer Intel but for gaming and stock for stock even the 10600K beats a 3900X.

Both 9700K and 10600K results:

Personally instead of the 9700K if you want Intel I would get the 10700K which is a 9900K in disguise with a $100 price cut! It is immense on the gaming front, has 8 cores 16 threads, so great on streaming as well, overclocks extremely well to 5GHz and beyond with a new TIM and cooler design and is there or thereabouts on the productivity side with the 3700 and 3800X with some wins and losses but close across the board...

Also with a 10700K you get on the Z490 motherboard which will allow for an upgrade path to Rocket Lake and Gen 4 PCIe....

Finally......Not to say Ryzen is bad at all because they are excellent across the board and cannot be beaten on the pricing front but for gaming the Intel side especially the 10th Gen cannot be beaten yet by Ryzen though you of course pay more..
